The American Dream
Or a Harsh Reality?
From Asia, Anatolia, Africa, the Middle East... thousands of people set out with the same dream:
America – the land of freedom, the country of dreams.
When you migrate chasing a dream, you’re not just moving to a new country — you’re stepping into an illusion.
But once reality hits, what happens then?
❓ First Question: Did You Really Become Free?
Yes, you landed in America. Maybe:
-
You didn’t have a residency permit, but you had hope.
-
You didn’t speak the language, but you believed you'd learn.
-
You were scared, but your dream was bigger.
Then…
How did you feel when the police stopped you for the first time?
How did you cope with not understanding anyone?
Did you ever feel like an outsider just walking down the street?
Did getting your SSN feel like trying to prove you were even human?
Did someone who arrived just a day before you look down on you like you came from the mountains?
Yeah… You spoke the same language, maybe even shared the same roots,
but because they came a little earlier, they forgot their own journey and judged yours.
🧾 Bureaucracy, Waiting, and That Subtle Disrespect
Everyone who arrives goes through this:
-
Getting your SSN: like applying for paradise, not a number.
-
Residency interviews: as if they need to believe you're truly human first.
-
Booking a doctor: like passing a patience test.
The irony?
The person making you feel small was once in your shoes — a newcomer.
But they forgot. And maybe the only way they feel big now is by making you feel small.
🧍♂️ Life or Illusion?
What was your first job?
Cleaning offices?
Loading boxes at a warehouse?
Working long hours just for a bed and some food?
Driving for Uber under someone else’s name?
These weren’t the dreams, right?
But that’s what most find.
Because this “American Dream” mostly lives on screen — not in reality.
💭 What You Expected vs. What You Got
Expected: Sipping coffee on New York streets with a Macbook.
Found: Working 12 hours nonstop, just enough energy left to sleep.
Expected: Freedom, acceptance, self-expression.
Found: “I can’t pronounce your name, can I just call you Mike?”
Expected: Cultural exchange and friendship.
Found: Constant “Where are you from?” that feels like a soft slap.
✊ So What Now?
Remember this, friend:
-
If you don’t forget who you are, no one can erase you.
-
Today, you may feel invisible, but tomorrow you may be their professor, their doctor — maybe even their boss.
-
You came here not just to survive, but to stay human.
Freedom isn’t only about laws — it’s about not losing your soul.
📌 Final Thought:
America may be the land of freedom,
but real freedom lives where you don’t forget yourself.
